Hurricane Preparedness Week 2023

April 30, 2023
Each year, the National Weather Service and the Florida Division of Emergency Management observe Hurricane Preparedness Week. Florida residents are encouraged to use this week to prepare for the upcoming Atlantic Hurricane Season, which begins June 1, 2023.
The City of Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division invites you to take the following steps to ensure you are JaxReady:
  • Determine your risk: take the time to assess the risks to your home or business and have a plan in place to mitigate any impacts.
  • Learn your evacuation zone: determine if you live in an evacuation zone and be sure that you understand storm-related evacuation orders. Plan multiple evacuation routes if a storm impacts our area. Visit this link to search your evacuation zone.
  • Have multiple ways to receive alerts: Sign up for ALERTJAX notifications and ensure you have a radio on hand in the event of power outages or damaged cell towers.
  • Stay safe during a storm: Don’t go outside until the storm has passed. Stay away from downed power lines. Never walk or drive through flooded waters.
  • Use caution after storms: Don’t go outside until the storm has passed. Stay away from downed power lines. Never walk or drive through flood waters.  Use generators outdoors and at least twenty feet from your home.
