The holiday season is upon us and that means an increase in cybercriminal activity. Before you click add to cart, check out the tips below from JaxReady:

Manage Your Devices:
  • Before making any online purchase make sure the device you are using to shop online is up - to - date. This includes mobile phones, computers, and tablets.
  • Check the device’s privacy and security settings to make sure you understand how your information will be used and stored. Do not share more information that you want or need to provide.
  • Enable automatic software updates where applicable. Running the latest version of software helps ensure the manufacturer is still supporting it and that the device is protected against vulnerabilities.

Shop Through Trusted Sources:
  • Before providing any personal or financial information, make sure you are interacting with a reputable, established vendor.
  • Always verify the legitimacy of any website before supplying any information.
  • Don’t click on links or download attachments in an email if you are unsure if the email is legitimate.
  • Never provide your password, personal, or financial information in response to an unsolicited email.
  • Make sure you look for “https”  instead of “http” on websites where you enter your information. This indicates that your information is being encrypted.

Utilize safe methods for purchases:
  • If available, use a credit card instead of a debit card for purchases.
  • Check your credit card and bank statements for any fraudulent charges.
