CITY TO ACCTIVATE COOLING CONTINGENCY PLAN THROUGH SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2026

The National Weather Service is forecasting near record heat for the Duval County area, meeting the criteria for the City of Jacksonville to activate its Cooling Center Contingency Plan through Sunday, July 12. Peak heat index values are expected to reach up to 113 degrees.
 
When activated on Monday-Saturday, Cooling Centers will be available at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities under normal hours of operation. These facilities will be open regardless of whether activation thresholds are met, and they include:
  1. All COJ Public Libraries (21 libraries): Accessible and air-conditioned spaces.
  2. All COJ Community Centers (20 centers): Available in multiple neighborhoods.
  3. All COJ Pools (31 pools) and Splash Pads (18 pads): Provide immediate cooling relief.
 
On Sunday, July 12th, two main Cooling Centers will be activated:
  1. Main Library (303 N. Laura St.)
  2. Legends Center (5130 Soutel Dr.)
Operating hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
