The City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Preparedness Division wants to share information about this upcoming training for those who want to support their neighbors in need.

“Evacuation shelters are a critical part of the city’s response to hurricanes and other large-scale emergencies,” said Captain Rickie Grace, Health and Medical Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness Division. “The American Red Cross provides the trained personnel needed to support these operations, and we are thankful for those who volunteer to serve when help is needed most.”
Shelter volunteers assist with registration, meal distribution, dormitory setup, and comfort and care for disaster victims. No prior experience is needed, and the American Red Cross provides training at no cost.

Red Cross Shelter Hero Training Now Available

When hurricanes or other disasters strike, Duval County opens evacuation shelters to protect and support displaced residents. These shelters rely on trained volunteers to keep things running. The American Red Cross is offering Shelter Hero training to prepare these volunteers, who play an essential role in disaster response.
